A federal judge in Tennessee has ordered the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from jail, allowing him to return to his family in Maryland, his attorney confirmed. Abrego Garcia, who faces federal human smuggling charges, is awaiting his criminal trial.

His lawyer, Sean Hecker, stated, "Kilmar Abrego Garcia is free today and heading home to Maryland after enduring an unlawful arrest, deportation, and imprisonment stemming from the government’s retaliatory actions against a man who dared to challenge the Administration’s ongoing attack on the rule of law. He is thankful for the meaningful due process afforded by American courts."
