EXCLUSIVE: Irving Islamic School SUED for Over $1M After Rape; Staff Didn’t Call Police, lawsuit says

The Islamic School of Irving is being sued for over $1 million by a female claiming she was brutally raped by a 14-year-old male and school officials failed to call police.

According to the Dallas County petition, Doe and her mother were working for a contractor hired to clean the school on the evening of Sept. 27, 2024. The school shares a campus with a mosque and is connected to it by doors that the lawsuit says should have been locked after hours.

Doe said she saw a 14-year-old boy, identified only as OEA, loitering in a school hallway during a mosque event and told him he should not be there because the school was closed. The petition alleges that OEA then locked himself in a classroom bathroom. As Doe began to leave the room,“ he suddenly ran toward her, grabbed her by the neck, choked her and slammed her body against the door. He then pulled her back into the classroom, turned the light off, and told her that he was going to kill her.” The lawsuit says that despite her pleas, he continued to strangle her, raped her, threatened to kill her if she told anyone, and took her phone.

Doe said she ran to a security guard in the parking lot and asked him to call police. Instead, the petition alleges, the guard yelled at her to stop crying and alerted school officials. Officials took her to an office and said they would “handle it.” '

Rather than calling 911, staff allegedly had her show them the room, photographed the scene, pulled up a photo of the boy, and remarked that he had previously been suspended for attempting to rape a female student. Doe identified him as her attacker.

The lawsuit says no one at the school or mosque summoned help. Officials instead asked whether she was a U.S. citizen and offered her money. Doe then found her mother elsewhere in the building; her mother called Doe’s manager, who called police. Officers arrested OEA on the property and took Doe to a hospital for a SANE exam.

The lawsuit also alleges that the school official told the victim he tried raping another female student previously.

OEA was allegedly a former student at the school, and he and his family were mosque members, the petition states. Before the attack, it alleges, he had been expelled for exposing himself to a janitor and sexually assaulting a peer. In June and July 2024, he was charged in Tarrant County with at least three counts of indecent exposure involving female strangers and was placed on electronic monitoring. The school “knew or should have known that OEA was a sexually dangerous individual and should never have allowed him to roam and gain access to the Islamic school premises,” the filing says.

On Dec. 1, 2025, OEA pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of Doe. On Feb. 16, 2026, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison, according to the filing. These accusations cannot be prove because the rapist is under the age of 18. Juvenile court records are sealed.

The civil suit names the Islamic Center of Irving doing business as the Islamic School of Irving, board president Naheed Kunnamal, the North American Islamic Trust, which the petition says owns the Irving property, and NAIT board chairman Gaddoor Saidi. They were all issued citations by the court on 8/24/26. It accuses them of negligence, premises-liability failures, inadequate security, and mishandling the report after the assault.

Attempts to reach the school for comment were unsuccessful. The email address listed on its website was invalid (Islamic is spelled wrong on their website), its online contact form returned as an error, and no one answered the phone. There was no voicemail.

This is not the first rape to take place at this school.

In May 2019, Irving police arrested Islamic Center of Irving security guard Syed Humzah Hashmi on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child after a boy who attended the Islamic School of Irving reported abuse at the center. An arrest warrant alleged Hashmi took the then-third-grader into an empty classroom and tried to sodomize him during an incident in the preceding years. He was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and three offenses of possession of child pornography. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison on the aggravated-sexual assault case and 8 years in prison in each of thе possession-of-child pornography cases, with the sentences to run concurrently.

In addition to that case, in August 2019, a Texas court ordered former Islamic Center of Irving imam Zia ul-Haq Sheikh to pay $2.55 million to a woman identified as Jane Doe in a sexual-misconduct lawsuit. She alleged he began counseling her at the Irving mosque when she was 13, then groomed her for years before coercing her into sex at a motel in 2016. Sheikh, who was forced to resign from the Irving center in 2017, called the judgment erroneous. He has appealed the ruling in 2021 the courts sided with the victim and ordered that appellee JANE DOE recover her costs of this appeal from appellant ZIA UL-HAQ SHEIKH.
